Converting a Wheelman to Electric (2019-2019)
Converting a Wheelman to Electric (2019-2019)
Info: My dad always wanted his wheelman to be electric since the original gas engine was smelly, wimpy and really hard to ride with. He bought some parts to start but they were undersized. I figured that it would be a perfect thing for me to donate some of the parts from my E bike and finish it up for him. Because I leveraged 3D printing, it only took a weekend to convert!
Specs:
6384 190kv sensored BLDC outrunner motor
1x VESC 4.12 (running FOC FW)
10s2p Turnigy LiPo Battery pack (with LVP only)
Wii Nun chuck with Bluetooth receiver for wireless throttle controller
Single 3-D printed motor, ESC, and battery mount (used Nylon X filament and an over-extruding multiplier for the strongest part possible)
What I learned: Load-bearing 3D printed parts are definitely viable in some cases and are super powerful materials to make use of. I was surprised to see no issues in the strength of the motor mount.
